Propulsion system for the ‘Laura G.’ platform

The ‘Laura G.’ jack-up technology platform, launched in 2015 at Nuovo Arsenale Cartubi in Trieste, represents excellence in Italian marine research and demonstrates the importance of collaboration between the private sector and scientific research. Commissioned by the Institute for Coastal Marine Environment of CNR Naples (IAMC-CNR), this floating structure is equipped with integrated systems and technologies for the detection and monitoring of geophysical and environmental parameters of coastal-marine areas.

Eurodredging dynamic positioning technology

To stabilise the platform in open sea, 3 ‘Sarani’ hydraulic propulsion units type DVM-SD 290 were employed, which through a ‘Dynamic Positioning’ system allow constant maintenance of the desired position of the platform in open sea.

The dynamic positioning system eliminates the need for traditional anchorages, allowing the platform to operate in deep waters and in areas where anchoring would be problematic or impossible. The DVM-SD 290 propulsion units, with their 360° rotation capability, work in synergy with GPS sensors, gyrocompasses and wind and current detectors to automatically and precisely maintain the pre-established position.
