Training platform for lifeboat equipment

Training platform for lifeboat equipment

The floating training platform is a practical system for maritime operators and technicians who must develop competencies on collective lifesaving appliances and fast rescue craft. Built on an Eurodredging modular pontoon in steel, it provides a controlled environment for practical exercises on real equipment and procedures.

Structure and configuration

The platform reproduces in scaled form the working conditions of a real ship. The steel base pontoon provides flotation stability, while an upper steel structure integrates the main components of a ship abandonment operation: hydraulic crane for lowering lifeboats, access platforms, operational control areas.

This setup enables realistic simulations without the costs and risks of a real ship, while maintaining the operational fidelity essential for effective training.

Training on lifesaving appliances

The platform supports practical training on collective lifesaving appliances and rescue boats. Trainees can develop competencies on:

  • Lowering procedures: crane operation, command sequences, descent speed control
  • Water operations: boat manoeuvres, engine operation, rescue and recovery procedures
  • Emergency management: safety communications, personnel coordination, operational protocols
  • Systems and equipment: operation of locating devices, survival equipment, distress signals

Advantage of controlled environment

Unlike pool-only training or software simulators, the pontoon provides practical experience with real equipment and actual water dynamics, without exposing trainees to the dangers and costs of exercises on operational vessels. The modularity of the Eurodredging structure allows rapid adjustments to simulate different configurations.

Versatile deployment

The platform supports practical training programmes for maritime operators and safety personnel. It can operate in river or coastal marine environments, supporting geographic accessibility to training centres requiring facilities for practical exercises.
