Ecological solution for river crossings
The modular ferry “Caronte”, built for the East Ticino Villoresi Consortium, represents a cutting-edge solution for connecting the banks of the canal at the Panperduto dam in Somma Lombardo. With an 80-metre crossing, it ensures safe transport of trucks and concrete mixers.
Zero-emission electric propulsion
The innovative translation system completely eliminates exhaust gases and polluting emissions. Two three-phase asynchronous electric motors class H, managed by advanced inverters, drive the chain system that ensures fluid and silent movements. Power supply via 80V/500Ah battery pack ensures optimal operational autonomy with overnight charging in 8–10 hours.
Certified modular construction
The hull consists of 12 watertight modular floating elements in RINA grade A steel, connected via steel pins for maximum robustness. All surfaces are protected with marine painting cycle for corrosion resistance and durability over time.
Advanced operational functionality
Two large symmetrical hydraulically-operated ramps at the extremities facilitate vehicle loading and unloading. The safety system includes negative band brake for safe parking and precise control during manoeuvres.
Chain translation system
Movement occurs via two chains positioned on the ferry sides: one winds on the motor-driven sprocket wheel operated electrically, the other on a toothed wheel with braking system. The onboard winch connected to chains tensioned between the banks ensures stability and total crossing control.
